Liverpool welcome Manchester City 3 days after the painful League Cup Penalty shootout defeat. While Anfield will be charges with emotions, we take a look at three key questions which needs answering ahead of the big kick-off this week?
Liverpool players and their mental strength
It is never easy to lose Cup finals and that too on penalties. Liverpool were undone by Willy Callabero’s heroics in the shootout, however, tonight will be a different game and Jurgen Klopp’s men will have to leave behind their Wembley horrors.
A lot of Liverpool players are still young and have not faced the kind of defeat, they suffered on Sunday, and thus their mental strength will be tested tonight against a very dangerous Man City side.
Does Benteke have a Liverpool future?
Christian Benteke’s omission from the League Cup defeat said a lot about his place in the current scheme of things under Jurgen Klopp. After Sunday’s defeat, Benteke should be an option for Klopp to change the make-up of his team, however, is snubbed again, big Belgian might want to reconsider his future next season.
Manuel Pellegrini’s desire and team selection
A part of me believes that Manuel Pellegrini is motivated to do well for Man City in his remaining weeks as club’s manager, however, I also believe that, he has given up on league title and wants to bow out with a Champions League trophy.
His team selection in the FA Cup was questioned, and over the coming weeks, we could see some strange calls from the Chilean, as he no longer needs to clarify his decisions given he is certain to leave the club in few weeks’ time.
