4-2-3-1 with Matic dropped and Pato to play his first game – Best Chelsea Lineup vs Southampton?

Chelsea’s aim to progress to higher in the league table will come against a stern test as they take on an in-form Southampton side, who are not conceding goals at the moment. Ahead of the kick-off, we take a look a the predicted Chelsea lineup vs Southampton.

Guus Hiddink has managed to get a great degree of consistency in Chelsea’s starting XI with only Eden Hazard being the player, who has not played consistent football. Hiddink will have his January signing Alexandre Pato available for selection as well, and we might see him come on later in the game to make his debut.

Defense – With Chelsea at present, there is not too much room to chop and change in the starting XI. They are bleeding in defense and are very thin in terms of central defenders. Branislav Ivanovic will continue to deputize for John Terry with Cesar Azpilicueta and Baba Rahman will play from the full-back areas.

Midfield – Nemanja Matic will make way for Cesc Fabregas to play from the deep-lying role and push Oscar back to his preferred Number 10 role. In recent weeks, Oscar has been used to replace Hazard from the left wing role.

Attack – Diego Costa has found his form back and will lead the line for Chelsea against Southampton with Willian and Hazard supporting him from the wings.

It has been expected that Pato is fit and will play some part against Southampton. Starting with him will be a big gamble, but Hiddink will need to assert Pato’s form and decide if he can use him in the Champions League tie vs PSG in about 10 days’ time.
