Manchester United came away with all three points after a typical United performance. Wayne Rooney scored from the only shot at goal for the Red Devils, and David De Gea was once again the difference maker.
On the wake of this unexpected result, we take a look at Liverpool vs Manchester United Player Ratings, which saw another lively performance from Wayne Rooney.
Liverpool Player Ratings vs Manchester United
Mignolet (5.5), Clyne (6), Toure (6), Sakho (6), Moreno (6), Lucas (6), Henderson (6), Can (6), Milner (6), Lallana (6), Firmino (6)
There was nothing exceptional from Klopp’e men tonight. They almost played through the motion at times. Adam Lallana had game’s best chance when he could have lobbed De Gea to give Liverpool the lead, but he could not succeed.
Game went on and their attacking sense kept coming down. United remained sharp and finished the only chance they had in the game. Perhaps a lesson, Klopp would not have liked to learn today, given the nature of rivalry between Liverpool and United.
Manchester United Player Ratings vs Liverpool
De Gea (7.5), Young (5), Smalling (6), Blind (6), Darmian (5.5), Schneiderlin (6), Fellaini (5.5), Lingard (5), Herrera (5), Martial (6.5), Rooney (7)
Van Gaal might point out how his team got the win and points from Anfield, but it was not a performance Manchester United can be proud of. Almost every outfield player apart from Rooney and Martial had a game to forget.
Ander Herrera often goes under the radar as he is loved by the fans, but he was nothing special tonight as was the case Lingard, Fellaini and others. Defense held on somehow, but had David De Gea not been there, United would have leaked couple of goals.
