Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy has been offered an escape route from his nightmare at the club by Ligue 1 club Nice, according to reports in France via Talksport.

RMC claim the 31-year-old is undergoing medical at the French club, with the move expected to be completed over the next 24 hours.

The Frenchman was signed from Newcastle for around £12 million in 2014 but his three-year spell at the Emirates Stadium didn’t go as planned due to ravaging recurrent injuries that sidelined him and he has to settle for a place behind Hector Bellerin.

He could only make 13 Premier League appearances for the Gunners during those three seasons; he made two appearances before moving to Bordeaux on loan in January 2016 till the end of the season.

He returned to Arsenal last summer but only lasted 14 minutes on the pitch in his first game for the club after 385 days due to another injury.

Debuchy has two years left on his current contract at Arsenal but has been released by the North London club and will join Nice on a free transfer.

He will replace Ricardo Pereira who has returned to Porto after the end of his two-year loan stint at Nice.
