Since Mertesacker joined Arsenal from Germany club Werder Bremen in the summer of 2011 since, the centre defender has established to become an elite defender, featuring in 209 games and netting nothing short eight goals.
However the 33-year-old featured in very less amount of games last term due to knee injury, but started in on final game against Chelsea and performance brilliant as he did a great job by pocketing Diego Costa till the end of the game.
Mertesacker has also been a key player of his country, has he contributed greatly in lifting the World-cup, winning 104 caps and become eight most cap in German’s history.
I personally like the idea of not letting hero like Mertesacker to leave the club after a long time of service, so I think it right said that Arsenal have a very good move by completing this deal.
