Chelsea have suffered fresh injury blow after Diego Costa suffered a ‘broken nose’ in training and is a doubt for tomorrow’s game against Newcastle United.
Costa has been in sparkling form under new manager Guus Hiddink scoring 7 goals in last 10 games. With him being doubtful for the game, Chelsea now will have to rely on either Eden Hazard or Loic Remy to play as the striker.
Diego Costa breaks nose in training
The news was confirmed by manager Guus Hiddink, who confirmed the injury and also said that the player will join up with his team mater later tonight after doing some light training.
Speaking with the media, Hiddink confirmed: “Diego Costa broke his nose in training yesterday, he will back later today to do some light training and then join his team-mates in the hotel tonight.”
While Hiddink was positive on the matter, he did express light concerns over the possibility of the Spaniard missing the game tomorrow.
Pato and Falcao out injured
The situation could be a pressing one for Chelsea as Radamel Falcao is still recovering from the injury and Alexandre Pato is still not match fit. It could see Hazard play as the false 9 or Remy being given a role up top against his former side.
Hiddink has seen his team remain unbeaten since taking over at the Bridge but wants to see them wins even more frequently. Blues lie at 13th in the table and need to put some points sooner rather than later, if they want to finish in European places for next season.
