Former Chelsea and Ivory Coast great Didier Drogba has decided to retire from Football and will join Chelsea as a coaching next week.
The news has been confirmed by leading French journal L’equipe after receiving quotes from Drogba’s current club Montreal Impact.
Canadian club were keen to hold on to the former Chelsea legend after he had scored 12 goals in 14 games for them. However, Roman Abramovich’s request to join Chelsea’s coaching staff was too big to refuse.
Drogba’s return to Stamford Bridge has been discussed ever since Guus Hiddink took over. It was discussed by few of Chelsea players as well.
Last week, Thibaut Courtois came out & said how vital would it be if the former club legend were to join Chelsea’s backroom staff.
Following Dorgba’s decision, Chelsea will have to work a compensation package with the MLS side, ad the Ivorian is still contracted to their team.
However, having the Big Drog back will not bother Abramovich and he will pay off any severance to Montreal Impact.
According to reports, Drogba will officially join Chelsea coaching staff from the bench before the crucial Champions League game against PSG.
