Celtic are reportedly looking to sign Newcastle United defender Chancel Mbemba, but he is claimed to be heading to FC Porto in the summer transfer window. The player is set to sign for FC Porto, according to HLN, and that puts a dent in Brendan Rodgers’s hope to sign him.
It has been reported that Mbemba will depart from the Premier League club Newcastle and join Portuguese giants Porto in the next 48 hours, with all three parties involved claimed to be in advanced negotiations.
Porto claimed the Portuguese Primeira Liga title this past season and will play in the Champions League next season.
However, it seems that Brendan Rodgers’ side are set to miss out on the former DR Congo international, whose value is estimated at €4.6 million (£4.06m) by the CIES Football Observatory.
Mbemba may not have had a huge career at Newcastle since he left Anderlecht in the summer of 2015, but the 23-year-old is a talented defender who has his better years ahead of him.
