Liverpool showed great character after coming from a goal down and a man down to win against their bogey side, Crystal Palace. When Joe Ledley struck the opening goal, it seemed like same old story for The Reds. Soon after, James Milner’s red card virtually handed Alan Pardrew’s men another victory over Liverpool.
However, Alex McCarthy’s mistimed kick allowed Roberto Firmino to score the equalizer, which was followed by a contentious penalty call on Christian Benteke. The Belgian striker received slightest of touches to his ankle and went down tumbling, then got up to smartly convert the kick.
On the wake of Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, we take a look at things learned and key talking points from the game at Selhurst Park.
Christian Benteke’s Liverpool career revived?
Moments like these can play a key role in a player’s career. Prior to the game, Benteke’s future was put under huge question mark, but his part in winning the penalty and the scoring the winning goal could go a long way in securing a long-term Anfield stay.
Liverpool favorites for the Europa League tie vs Man United
Liverpool’s next game is against Manchester United in the Europa League, and given how Klopp’s men played against Palace, they will be the safer bet to win the tie. Philippe Coutinho came off the bench, while Daniel Sturridge was an unused sub which would stand Liverpool in good chance to win against United.
A nothing season for Crystal Palace
Earlier in the season, people were raving about the dazzling wing play of Yannick Bolasie, Wilfried Zaha and the brilliance of Yohan Cabaye. A lot was expected from Alan Pardrew’s side, but it all went in vein after a horror run of form since the turn of new year. They are certain to end this season somewhere in bottom half of the table, which would seem like an underachievement after a great start to the campaign.
