Chelsea are concerned about the goal-keeping situation at Stamford Bridge as Antonio Conte’s arrival promises to shake up the squad next season.
According to Telegraph, Conte had one-on-one talks with both Courtois and Begovic as the Italian wanted to understand the level of commitment from both the keepers. However, things are still not clear as the duo are cautious about their future with the club.
Courtois is waiting for a summer bid from Real Madrid and if that happens, he will not think twice before leaving Stamford Bridge next season.
Real were quoted a staggering £73million for the Belgian stopper but a summer bid is looking likely with Jose Mourinho rumoured to take charge at Santiago Bernabeu next season.
Courtois and Mourinho share mutual admiration for each other and would like to work together if the opportunity presents itself in Madrid this summer. Chelsea’s lack of Champions League action is another damning factor for the London side.
As for Begovic, he is no longer prepared to hold back and be the second choice at Chelsea for another season. Begovic got only his second start under Guus Hiddink against Swansea over the weekend and he is less than pleased with the current situation.
Despite Begovic proving his worth against Swansea, Courtois will return in goal against Manchester City much to the disgust of former Stoke keeper. Earlier in the season when Courtois was out due to injury, Begovic had deputized in his absence, but he was overlooked once the Belgian returned to fitness.
Under current scenario, Begovic will most certainly leave the club if Courtois stays at Stamford Bridge which has become a cause of concern for the incoming manager Antonio Conte. He will need to sort this out before the start of next season, or else he could be set for an indifferent start to his Premier League journey.
