According to a report from The Daily Record, Celtic are financially buoyant to meet Georgian De Arrascaeta’s asking price this summer but may face strong competition from those interested in the Uruguay international.

The Record further stated that the Hoops have scouted the 24-year on several occasions in recent times, while Newcastle has also begun to admire the attacking midfielder, who helped his country reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Russia and will cost £10 million.

The Sun’s initial report on Celtic’s interest claimed that De Arrascaeta asking price is £18 million, and that may have left many fearing that the Bhoys will not be able to sign the player.

But before Celtic fans start to believe that they may be about to secure the player’s signature this summer, the Record adds that the Hoops may struggle to compete with some of their rivals for his signature when it comes to wages.

If Celtic are willing to meet De Arrascaeta’s asking price, then you would imagine that Rodgers will be urging the club to do all they can to make sure that they do not fall at the next hurdle when it comes to potential talks.

It could potentially prove to be a game-changing signing for the Scottish Premiership champions. And while the Parkhead faithful would have initially been forgiven for believing that the interest would probably amount to nothing due to the potential finances involved, the latest reports perhaps hint that Celtic have some belief that the deal could come through for them.
