Celtic are planning to make fresh negotiations with defender Dedryck Boyata when he comes back from the international break over the next couple of weeks, with Brendan Rodgers hoping to convince him to remain in Glasgow.

That is according to The Daily Record, who report that initial talks with the player prior to the tournament in Russia failed to come through.

The publication claim that clubs such as Lazio and Fulham are also in pursuit of the player’s signature and with him having less than a year to run in his contract at Parkhead that puts the club in a less than ideal position.

Without a doubt, the Belgian has enjoyed playing under Brendan Rodgers, but with bigger leagues apparently knocking on his door, is he ready to leave just yet?

The 27-year-old won’t be returning to training at Parkhead till another fortnight after Belgium’s third-place finish at the World Cup and the club are likely to take his contract talks as a priority heading into the next season.

The Hoops have yet to complete any deal for any defensive player this summer despite it being the weakest area of the team last season and fans have been crying out for the club to pursue a first-team quality centre-back for ages now.
