In an attempt to improve their attack last season, Arsenal and Arsene Wenger acquired the service of Spanish striker, Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna in a £ 17.1 m deal. But since the Spaniard joined the Gunners he has had little playing time.
He always seems to play very well every time he gets on the pitch but that has not convinced Wenger to give him more playing time. Due to this, speculations have been raised about his future at the Emirates stadium.
Perez did not fly with the rest of the squad for the pre-season tour at Australia and his absence is an indication that a transfer might happen soon.
However Spanish football expert, Carlos Rosende, believe Perez will stay with Arsenal beyond this summer. He said on his twitter page that “Lucas Pérez does not travel to Australia with Arsenal for friendlies on July 13/15, remains in London. But his departure is not imminent.”
No one can ascertain the authenticity of Rosende report, what is sure is that at the moment Perez is not in Wenger’s plan, and that Perez will remain a fringe player and the recent signing of Alexandre Lacazette means he has fallen downward in the selection perking order of strikers.
Deportivo, as well as Espanyol, Sevilla, and Malaga are all in chase of the player and a return to Depotivo La Coruna can’t be ruled out.
