Chelsea finally confirmed the signing of German defender Antonio Rudiger from Roma for around £34m. He put pen to paper for a five year deal.
The German star has been a subject of heavy transfer speculation to Chelsea since the Blues registered their interest in him but since his outstanding performance at the just concluded FIFA Confederations cup, Manchester United have also come into the mix to sign the defender.
Chelsea had lost out on the signing of Romelu Lukaku to Man United last week and it was a payback time for Chelsea as they beat United to the signature of the defender.
Rumors were already saying Antonio Conte is frustrated with Chelsea activities in the market and might be considering quitting at Stamford Bridge.
Rudiger becomes Chelsea’s second signing of the transfer window after Willy Cabellero, who joined on a free transfer from Man City.
Conte has insisted on adding new players to his squad after letting John Terry and Nathaniel Ake leave the club. Adding Rudiger to his back line will make the Italian gaffer very delighted.
Rudiger, is a versatile defender that can play at both right back and centre defence. He also fit perfectly into the three at the back system of Conte. Rudiger was instrumental in the Giallorossi second place finish. Chelsea are still hoping of getting a new striker before the end of the transfer market.
