Chelsea kick-started their summer transfer business last night after agreeing a £33.2million deal to sign Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi. However, that is seen as just the beginning to a busy summer for the incoming manager Antonio Conte.
According to reports from Sky Italia, Chelsea have received positive updates concerning two of their prime transfer targets this summer – Antonio Candreva and Gonzalo Higuain.
Representatives of both the players came out earlier this week and claimed that they have made a decision about their future amid strong rumours of them moving to Chelsea this summer.
While Candreva’s deal looks straight forward after his agent revealed that he has already made up his mind to quit Lazio this summer. Conte is a big fan of Candreva and is pushing for a deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge ahead of the next season.
Confirming Candreva’s interest, his agent Federico Pastorello said: “The president of the Lazio knows what he wants for the boy. Lotito will decide the price, but the will of Candreva is clear.
“In the coming days we will see if there are developments.”
Elsewhere Higuain’s agent and brother has created quite a stir by claiming that the Argentine striker will not sign a new contract with Napoli.
He stressed that Higuain will not force his move away from Naples but will wait for the Serie A club to accept an offer for him this summer.
In an interview with Closs Continental Nicolas Higuain said: “This is the situation, the President is asking for the clause to be paid to let go of Gonzalo, and we have the right to refuse to renew.
“We arrived at Napoli with the promise of a successful project, playing in the Champions League and winning the Scudetto, with improved facilities and a desire to grow.
“It wasn’t right of the club to ignore those commitments. Aurelio De Laurentiis has every right to demand the clause in his contract be paid, but my brother and I have decided not to accept a renewal.”
Possibility of the Double Deal happening soon
Chelsea have shown how quickly they can make a move to sign players with Batshuayi’s transfer last night. There are similar opportunities for the Blues if they can press forward for both Higuain and Candreva.
According to reports, Higuain is valued at £74m while Candreva will be available for anything in the region of £21million. The offered sum may be on the higher side but it will complete Conte’s squad overhaul and will give him every chance of succeeding next season.
