Chelsea have stolen the march to complete the signing of highly rated central defender Jake Clarke-Salter. The England Under-19 regular was subject to interest from the leading Premier League clubs, however, The Blues made certain of tying their academy star to a long-term contract.
Salter has been at the club since the age of 9 and has featured regularly in Chelsea’s victorious UEFA Youth League campaign last season. The 18-year old defender was used by Jose Mourinho in 2015/16 pre-season as well. On the back of some impressive performances, Salter has been given a contract until the year 2019.
Chelsea have looked to hand the young stars a place in starting XI this season with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Kurt Zouma being the prime examples. It is no secret, how Chelsea have struggled this season with weak defending and with Salter extending his stay until 2019, one gets a feeling that he might get some playing time this season.
Despite his young age, Salter has shown tremendous acts of maturity and calmness in last 12 months and the word is that, Chelsea hierarchy see him as one of the finest defensive prospects since John Terry. Speaking of his ability of playing throughout the season, Clarke-Salter had featured in every game for Chelsea’s UEFA Youth League campaign and has gone in to represent his country at Under-19 level as well.
