Celtic has announced the signing of Australian teenage sensation, Leo Mazis on a three year deal. The youngster impressed the Hoops when he was on trial last year at the club in October.
He will be joining fellow Canberran, Tom Rogic at the Celtic Park. Mazis has similar trait with Rogic and both came through same system under former Socceroo boss, Andy Bernal. The 17-year-old joined from Belconnen and has been cleared to play for Celtic after all his travelling documents and visa have been sorted out and cleared by all authorities.
“It was unbelievable when I got the call to say Celtic were offering me a contract,” the 17-year-old told the Celtic website.
“It’s always been my dream to play football at the highest level and Celtic are a massive club so I’m over the moon with this opportunity. Training has been unbelievable so far. I’ve loved every minute of it and I can’t wait to play some games.”
Mazis debuted in the National Premier League in the ACT as a 16-year-old. Last year he scored two goals in 16 games for Belconnen. He will be a good addition to Celtic has he has ample opportunity to develop into a bigger star. He has players who he could look up to who have progressed through the ranks and have made name for themselves.
James Forrest is one of several Celtic academy graduate that he could look up to and also his fellow country man, Tom Rogic is a other player. Moussa Dembele joined Celtic in similar fashion two years ago and has gone on to develop into a player whose market value has gone high.
It is a win-win situation for the club and player has he is still young and the club have a long term to make him develop into what teg would be able to call a world star in future.
