Scottish champions Celtic have been linked with a potential move for Deportivo La Coruna’s centre-half Fabien Schar. The Swiss international is vastly experienced, and he could prove to be a major coup for Brendan Rodgers’ team and at the right price.

According to report, Celtic have been linked with an interest in the 26-year-old defender. Deportivo suffered demotion from La Liga last season, and Celtic are allegedly desperate to see him join them at Parkhead.

To date, the Swiss international has recorded an impressive total of 229 appearances, scoring a staggering total of 27 goals. He’s also been impressive for his country, Switzerland, having played 38 international games, scoring a respectable total of seven goals.

In addition to his impressive goal-chart, Schar is well renowned for his refined tackling ability. Furthermore, he displays unwavering concentration when approaching his defensive work, and he’s highly regarded for his outstanding blocking skills.

A player of his experience and undeniable class would be a great addition to the Celtic team. That said, Brendan Rodgers’ side will have to pay a reasonable fee for his services. Given that fact that Deportivo have relegated to the second tier of Spanish football, the Bhoys should look to acquire the centre-half for a reduced fee.

Having only conceded 25 goals in 38 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, the Bhoys boasted the best defence in the division the previous season. The potential arrival of Schar would help consolidate their status as the best defence in Scotland.
