Celtic are probing the market for a new defender and have set their sight Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna, according to the Scottish Sun.
The publication claims that the Hoops are considering a swoop for the 21-year-old, with Championship side Swansea City also eyeing up a move for the central defender.
The report reveals that Brendan Rodgers is looking for a left-sided defender and that 6ft 2in McKenna may fit the bill (TransferMarkt).
The Scotland international registered 40 appearances for Aberdeen, finding the net three times, and, as reported by the Sun, on Wednesday McInnes insisted McKenna would be sold for a bargain price and claimed that he had the potential to be better than £20million Alfie Mawson.
This is a deal that needs to come through for Brendan Rodgers as he aims for a treble treble. His defence needs a major refresh and Scott McKenna would be a major coup, he would bring extra quality to the Hoops defensive line for the coming campaign.
The defender was impressive in the recent Europa League qualifying games against Premier League side Burnley, they were eventually defeated on aggregate but the 21-year-old enhanced his burgeoning reputation with two outstanding performances home and away.
The fact that he can perform at that level is a good indicator for Rodgers, he has shown he can perform against top-level opposition and in European games, which is exactly what Celtic needs. Despite just 40 games for his current team, it looks like the central defender is ready for the step up to a big team like Celtic. They need to beat Swansea to his signature over the next week or so, his signing could be the making of their season.
