Celtic missed out of round of 16 qualifications after they were defeated 2-1 by Bayern Munich. This helps their opponent, Bayern Munich seal their spot in the kick out phase of the champions league.
It was an end to end game and a very interesting match to watch for neutrals and football purists. Celtic home fans would be disappointed that their club could not salvage anything in the match at Parkhead.
It was a grievous defensive error in the 22nd minute that dash Bayern their first goal. Kingsley Coman was the beneficiary as he helped Bayern seal a first half win. It was a disappointing one for Celtic but will be able to get back into the game in the second half.
The Celts were energized after the break as they continue to pressure until they got the leveller. The goal finally came in the 74th minute through Callum McGregor effort. With the game level, it was all for the taken for either side to take the game.
The leveller was only able to last three minutes before Bayern took the lead once again. It was through Javi Martinez that the second goal came and that was all that was needed. This means that Celtic have only 3 points out of 12 meaning they can’t make it out of the group stage. The earlier 3-0 defeat in the reverse fixture also make Bayern make maximum 6 points from Celtic.
Celtic hope now lies in trying to qualify for the Europa league. They have their job well cut out and this will he an attainable task for them.
Brendan Rodgers have to improve on his record and help Celtic be a force in Europe rather than a Scottish champion season in season out. If a Europa league spot is achieved, it will be a great achievement especially after their group in the Champions league.
