Celtic were interested in Anderlecht midfielder Adrien Trebel during the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Trebel, 27, has been nurturing an abdominal muscle injury for the past couple of weeks, but he has still featured for every minute of the club’s league fixtures so far this season, leading as the team captain during that time.
Formerly of Nantes and Standard Liege, Trebel joined Anderlecht in January 2017, but according to HLN , he could have been departing the club this summer.
Celtic, Porto and Hertha Berlin were reportedly interested in the former France youth international, with ‘bids of £7.2million (€8m) turned down by Anderlecht.
The report further stated that the Jupiler Pro League club had no intention letting one of their ‘indispensable’ players go, with Trebel considered an integral part of Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s squad.
Celtic had a rough time in the transfer window with just six signings accomplished over the summer. Scott Bain and Odsonne Edouard made their loan moves to Parkhead permanent, while Youssouf Mulumbu and former Hoops defender Emilio Izaguirre joined Brendan Rodgers’ side on free transfers.
