Santi Cazorla has admitted that he would want to stay with Arsenal beyond his current contract but has also confirmed that the club have not approached him with a new deal.
The 31-year-old midfield star is out of contract next summer. The Spain star is a firm fan favourite at the Emirates and wants to stick around for longer.
Speaking on the contract saga, Cazorla confirmed: “I hope I can stay here and continue to play,” Spaniard told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.
“I am happy here. What a player wants is to play and to feel important.
“Fortunately, since I arrived at Arsenal, I’ve had the confidence of the coach and of my teammates.
“I’ve played a lot of minutes. In the end, that is what every player wants.”
Despite admitting his desires to stay at Emirates, Cazorla understands that Arsenal are going through a transition which could see younger players replace him in coming time.
Further clarity on the matter is expected to be made at the end of current season.
