Borussia Monchengladbach have signed Josip Drmic for a reported fee of €10million

Borussia Monchengladbach have signed Josip Drmic from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported fee of €10million. At 22, Drmic is a very promising forward, as he has impressed everyone with the Swiss U-21 team in the qualifiers for the upcoming UEFA U-21 Euro Championships.

Drmic enjoyed an outstanding debut season in Bundesliga scoring 17 times for FC Nuremberg and was only behind hotshots like Robert Lewandowski and Mario Mandzukic. Following that, Drmic was in pursuit of Champions League football action which led him to joining Bayer Leverkusen.

This move didn’t quite turn out as expected as Drmic represented Leverkusen in just 812 minutes over 25 games leaving him with a mere 32.48 minutes per game.

Although Drmic got very little playing time, he did show his potential during the limited time. Averaging at 0.67 goals per 90 minutes he is comfortably ahead of the current lot of strikers in the M’Gladbach squad.

Also, with 2.11 shots from inside the penalty box per 90 minutes of action and 0.11 headed goals per 90 minutes, Drmic seems to have a knack for goals that the current lot of strikers at M’Gladbach seem to lack.

M’Gladbach finished third in the Bundesliga and have been looking for depth in their squad to cope with the added pressure of midweek games. M’Gladbach were in dire need of a forward after having just one striker in reserve apart from their first choice striker as they agreed to sell Maxmillian Kruse to VfB Wolfsburg.

What better than to go for a young striker who has shown his promise in the Bundesliga and was available for a bargain considering the potential he has previously shown. Thus Borussia Monchengladbach have signed Josip Drmic with a hope of immediate flurry of goals.

Drmic would also be very happy with this move as it potentially makes him the second choice striker behind an ageing Raffael and also potentially the first choice striker if he can impress during training.

Another highly rated Swedish striker Branimir Hrgota already plays at M’Gladbach and the rivalry between these two young starlets will be one that football fans all over the world will be excited to watch. Over and above that, with Bayer Leverkusen no more involved in the Champions league, Drmic moving to M’Gladbach made sense.

The number of opportunities he will get seem to look very bright and it will be interesting to see if he can show the same level of goal scoring prowess he showed at FC Nuremberg in the 2012-13 season. Following that amazing form, Borussia Monchengladbach have signed Josip Drmic for a mere €10million.

His link up with other young dynamic players like Thorgan Hazard, who is on loan from Chelsea, will be one of the many reasons that the M’Gladbach faithfulls are excited for the start of the new season. Now, it’s just a matter of waiting and watching their footballing skills speak for itself.
