Liverpool take on Borussia Dortmund in Europa League Quarter Final first leg later tonight with a lot of attention being on Jurgen Klopp and how he marks his return to Signal Iduna Park.
The match is seen as a potential Champions League affair given both clubs’ history and pedigree in the tournament. At present though, Dortmund have the better squad and are in better form as well.
Speaking of squad strength, we decided to compare which squad outweighs the other in our Borussia Dortmund vs Liverpool combined XI feature. Results were rather unkind for The Reds, who could only see four of their current players make this fantasy XI.
Borussia Dortmund vs Liverpool Combined XI
Defense: Simon Mignolet has done very little to justify his claim to be in Borussia Dortmund vs Liverpool Combined XI after his error filled season. Back four sees Dortmund and Liverpool split two defenders each with Mats Hummels being the leader.
Midfield: Dortmund and Liverpool share the spoils in midfield as well with Ilkay Gundogan and Emre Can making an all-German midfield for our Borussia Dortmund vs Liverpool Combined XI. Jordan Henderson and James Milner miss out after Can’s recent brilliance for The Reds.
Attack: This is where Dortmund show their quality and class as they occupy 3 of the 4 remaining slots. Marco Reus, Henrik Mkhitaryan and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang have been in sensational form this season and there could hardly be any debate over their selection in our Borussia Dortmund vs Liverpool Combined XI.
Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana miss out with Philippe Coutinho being the lone Liverpool attacker in the combined XI.
