Manchester United defender Eric Bailly fears he has suffered a “really bad” knee ligament injury, according to Jose Mourinho.
The centre-back was hurt attempting to stop Eden Hazard in the second half but came off the worse of two players. Bailly’s right knee banged into Hazard’s foot as the Belgian looked to be taking a shot.
Following the 4-0 defeat, Mourinho addressed the media and discussed Bailly’s injury and said: “He is injured and I am afraid it is a bad injury. It is in his knee, the ligament area. He feels it is really bad.”
Timing of the injury is very bad
Bailly’s injury could not have come at a more hurtful time for United where they need to take on Manchester City in the EFL Cup later this week and have some tough fixtures in coming weeks.
Bailly has been United’s best player this season and has been responsible for the clean sheets club has kept this season.
In his absence, likes of Daley Blind and Phil Jones need to step up or else it could get even worst for Manchester United and Jose Mourinho in coming weeks.
