Mesut Ozil putting Arsenal contract talks on hold has become a regular occurrence at Emirates, however, German star’s recent snub could turn out to be decisive as Arsene Wenger may have already started to look for a replacement.
According to talksport, Borussia Dortmund attacker and a long-term Arsenal target Henrikh Mkhitaryan has turned down his new contract back in Germany and is seriously considering offers from both Arsenal and Chelsea.
According to Turkish Football, Ozil is swayed away with the possibilities of joining Bayern Munich this summer as Carlo Ancelotti is keen on bringing Ozil to Allianz Arena as a possible upgrade to Mario Gotze.
Ozil was instrumental to Arsenal’s 2015/16 season with 19 assist in Premier League, but his involvement in the bigger games was always put under question marks. The dip in his form was evident last season as well where he could only muster 4 assists and 2 goals in his last 13 league appearances.
Perhaps Wenger is not the same man he was 12 months ago and is not ready to be put on hold by Ozil anymore. French manager went out and defied the odds by signing Granit Xhaka way early in the transfer window.
His fresh approach has left Gunner fans wondering if Wenger is really prepared to swing the axe on Ozil’s Arsenal career and sign Mkhitaryan this summer. If the Dortmund ace does arrive at Emirates, he will certainly be as deadly as Ozil has been in last 12 months, if not more.
Mkhitaryan bagged 23 goals and staggering 32 assists in all competitions last season. The 27-year old attacker certainly trumps Ozil when it comes to goal-scoring and work ethic off the ball.
While it may present fictitious value to Arsenal fans discussing the possibilities of seeing Ozil leave, but given the number of times he has turned down the new Arsenal contract, it would not surprise me if Ozil is snubbed by Wenger in favor of a more robust and dynamic playmaker in Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
