Manchester United midfield star Michael Carrick could be on his way to Arsenal amid recent reports of an alleged interest from Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

According to Mirror, Wenger is a huge admirer of Carrick’s attributes as a player. The French manager has made three previous attempts to bring Carrick to Emirates. Wenger tried to sign when Carrick left West Ham for Tottenham, and again when he chose to quit Spurs and join Man United.

According to Mirror, Wenger’s last attempt to sign Carrick was last season when the England midfielder was stalling on the contract extension. Carrick eventually decided to stay at Old Trafford for one more season, but is out of contract once again in the summer.

With just few months left in his contract, United are yet to offer him an improved deal, which could suggest the obvious interest from other teams including Arsenal to sign the quality midfielder.

Do Arsenal need Michael Carrick?

Carrick may 34-years old but he is still one of the finest passers of the ball in Premier League. That is precisely the reason why Wenger is keen to bring Carrick to Arsenal with Thomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini all set to quit Emirates in the summer.

Arsenal fans not happy with Carrick rumours

The news however, has not been received with joy by the Arsenal fans, as they are not happy with their club trying to sign another ageing star. Back in the summer, Paul Pogba and William Carvalho were linked with a move to Arsenal.

Since then, Mohamed Elneny has been signed, and now Carrick is being talked up as the most likely midfield signing next summer. One can understand why Arsenal fans are unimpressed.
