Arsenal are edging closer to sign Brazilian left-back Douglas Santos, according to reports from Mirror. Brazilian media has received strong suggestions of Arsenal’s bid for the 22-year old, who made his international debut earlier this year.

Arsenal are looking to offload Kieran Gibbs this summer and are eyeing a move for Costa, who spent last season on loan with the Serie A club Udinese.

Back with Atletico Mineiro, Costa will be available for as little £7.7million this summer if Arsenal press ahead with the transfer.

According to Brazilian outlet Hoje em Dia, Barcelona are also interested in signing the young defender after making a formal contact with the Brazilian club.

Arsenal, however, are ahead in the transfer battle as they sounded their interest to sign Costa before any other European club.

Do Arsenal need to sign a left-back?

With Nacho Monreal soon heading towards his 30’s, Arsenal need to plan for future. In recent weeks, Ricardo Rodriguez and Alex Sandro have been linked with a move to be brought on as Monreal’s cover.

Gibbs is facing an uncertain time at Emirates and is looking likely to be one of the summer departures. Costa indeed has the talent to be a top-class left back in coming seasons and the fact that he is available for £7.7million, makes it an attractive deal for Arsenal.
