Jamie Vardy is not a popular figure amongst Arsenal fans right now after the Leicester City striker agreed to sign a new 4-year deal and remain at King Power Stadium.
Despite Vardy’s snub, Arsene Wenger is keen on bringing a prolific striker to Emirates this summer and according to reports from Express, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang is now tipped to join Arsenal.
Aubameyang has been linked with a move to Manchester City as Pep Guardiola fancies the 27-year old to be his leading striker at Etihad. However, those talks have been put on hold for now after City’s hesitancy in paying the demanded £65million for his signature.
This has given Arsenal the opportunity to swoop in and sign a quality striker like Aubameyang. Manager Arsene Wenger is under extreme pressure to deliver a big signing after narrowly missing on Premier League title last season.
Chances of Aubameyang signing for Arsenal – 2.5/5
With Alvaro Morata keen on a move to Chelsea and Gonzalo Higuain not looking to quit Napoli anytime soon, Aubameyang could be Arsenal’s last hope to bring in a potent goal scorer.
Despite the urgent need, Wenger’s policy of not spending big on players may come down as the only glitch for the Gunners to sign the Gabon International.
At present, Dortmund want £65m for his services which is not the figure Wenger likes to pay for any of his transfers. Mesut Ozil has been his most expansive buy this far and he was signed for just £40m.
Despite his reservations, Wenger may need to revisit his policies for this one transfer as it could end up deciding the course of Arsenal’s season as they look to mount a serious title challenge next season.
