Arsenal are nearing a £35m transfer for Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez, according to reports from leading French journal L’equipe.
The news was further confirmed by one of L’equipe’s top journalists Mohamed Bouhafsi, who confirmed that Arsenal have actually made a concrete offer for Mahrez and the player is keen to join them this summer.
According to Bouhafsi, Mahrez sees this summer as the perfect opportunity to join a bigger club and make the most of his exploits from last season. Chelsea are one of the interested clubs in signing Mahrez as well.
L’equipe are however favoring Arsenal to complete Mahrez’s signature given Arsene Wenger’s desperate need to add an attacker. They are convinced of a €41m (£35m) + €9m add-ons bid from the Gunners which could see the transfer go through in next 48 hours.
Gunners have already been turned down by Jamie Vardy, Mauro Icardi, Gonzalo Higuain and Romelu Lukaku while Lyon have priced out Arsenal of a deal to sign Alexandre Lacazette this summer.
Like every other transfer window, fans are getting restless at the lack of business from Arsenal especially when everyone can see that the problem lies in their forward line.
Lack of goals at crucial moments has hurt Arsenal in the past and same could be the case if Wenger does not act now. Mahrez could be the perfect answer given he operates from the right wing which supposedly is Arsenal’s weakest position going forward at the moment.
Arsenal are hoping to agree a transfer fee for Mahrez in next 48 hours for him to be involved in the opening game of their season against Liverpool.
Although it may come as a hopeful wish but Mahrez could be nearing a move to the Emirates faster than what we all think.
