Chelsea director Michael Emenalo has flown to Italy last night to meet with Antonio Conte to reach an agreement for the Italian to become the new Chelsea manager. Conte is currently managing the Italian National team, but will return to club football next summer.
At present, Chelsea seems the most obvious target for Conte after club’s top brass have approved a move for the Italian. After weeks of discussion, The Blues drafted a three-man shortlist for the vacant managerial position.
Conte favorite for Chelsea job
Diego Simeone and Jorge Sampoli were the other two candidates, but Conte has impressed Chelsea hierarchy the most and a deal is expected to be announced sooner rather than later.
Chelsea’s decision to press ahead with Conte was largely because of Simeone’s willingness to stay with Atletico Madrid next season. The Argentine respectfully turned down the move to Premier League, and has forced Chelsea to look elsewhere.
According to Football Insider, Emenalo and Conte will attend tonight’s Juventus vs Bayern Munich game and the duo will discuss business and possible summer targets as well.
This will be Emenalo’s second meeting with Conte after the Duo spoke at length 3 weeks back in Rome. According to reports, Conte has already told the Italian football federation about his decision to return to club management next summer, with Chelsea being the obvious target.
