Antonio Conte has agreed a deal in principle to become the next Chelsea manager succeeding Guus Hiddink next season.
As it turns out, Conte may have made his first summer signing as well after tempting Lazio forward Antonio Candreva to join him at Stamford Bridge next summer.
The news has been covered by Italian news outlet Il Tempo. According to reports, Candreva is open to joining Conte at Chelsea after the manager has given him regular first time action in the national setup.
Candreva is a wide player, who fits in Conte’s game plans. There are reports of unrest between Candreva and his current club Lazio, which has further stirred the news of Candreva arriving at Stamford Bridge outfit next season.
Conte is keen to guide Chelsea to their squad overhaul next summer. Conte has specifically asked for Radja Nainggolan, Arturo Vidal and Candreva’s transfer next summer to turn Chelsea in to Champions material once again.
According to reports, Chelsea club director met with Conte last night to discuss the potential job offer during the Juventus vs Bayern Munich Champions League tie. Conte wants to return in to club management and with the level of agreements being reported, it is only a matter of time before the deal gets officially announced.
For now, Chelsea are in safe hands of Guus Hiddink, and Conte has his hands full with Italy’s 2016 Euro campaign. There many not be any formal announcement until the Euros next summer.
