Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has decided to extend his La Liga stay and has signed a new 5-year deal with the club despite being strongly linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.

The news was confirmed by Atletico’s official website where the French striker thanked club supporters for being patient with him while all the exit rumours were flying high.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Griezmann said“I’m very satisfied, very happy to keep belonging to this family and this project. I want to improve every year, and the club, the coaches and my teammates can help me to reach this goal”.

The 25-year old has been one of the most important players for manager Diego Simeone by scoring 22 goals in each of the last two seasons. With him extending his stay at Vicente Calderon, Atletico will become an even more dangerous side next season.

Los Rojiblancos have already completed Nicolas Gaitan’s transfer and with Griezmann signing a new 5-year deal, Atletico will be the firm favorites for next seasons’s La Liga crown.

As for Manchester United, they need to find an alternative to Griezmann with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

United are yet to give in to Borussia Dortmund’s €40million asking for Mkhitaryan. Instead, they have offered €24m and are trying to force Dortmund to sell their star asset as he has clearly refused to sign a new deal.
