Brendan Rodgers has little record of mistakes in his career as Celtic manager but, if you ask fans, many will confirm that letting Liam Henderson go was one of his few errors.

The 22-year-old found himself sidelined during the first year and a half of Rodgers’ reign at Celtic Park before being shipped off to Serie B side Bari in January for just £115,000.

Since then, Henderson has proved how wrong Celtic was for selling him far too soon. The Twinkle-toed Scot quickly became a fan favourite, earning himself the mouthy yet rather wonderful nickname ‘Braveheart with Brazilian feet’.

But after Bari went bankrupt, Henderson has been on the move again. On Friday, the former Hibernian loanee signed a four-year deal with another Serie B outfit, the recently relegated Hellas Verona, where he will be coached by the 2006 World Cup winner Fabio Grosso.

And Celtic fans seem delighted to learn that Henderson is moving forward on the continent. After all, there are still too few British players willing to test themselves in a different footballing environment and the early signs show that Henderson fits well with the technical Italian game.

Should he help drive yo-yo club Verona achieve promotion next season, Rodgers will once again be criticized for the decision to sell him.
