Brendan Rodgers admitted he had committed a transfer error this summer by cutting short Charly Musonda’s 18-month Celtic loan short – just six months into the spell. Now, he should control the situation by signing Musonda’s Chelsea teammate.
Musonda failed to fulfill expectations at Celtic, appearing in just eight games after joining the club from Chelsea in the January transfer window. Joining until the summer of 2019, his loan deal was cut short and is back at the Stamford Bridge.
It leaves Celtic particularly short on the flanks, with Patrick Roberts also saying his goodbyes after the expiration of his loan spell from Manchester City. Youngster Mikey Johnston is also expected to head for the exit doors this summer.
Only Scott Sinclair and James Forrest remain from the previous season, while Jonny Hayes returns from a long-term injury and Lewis Morgan will be relied upon to step up to the game after being signed from St. Mirren.
But the Hoops need a top talent on the flanks – especially with the club aspiring for longevity in the Champions League as well as securing a third successive treble.
Indeed, Rodgers should consider replacing Musonda by targeting a Chelsea teammate at the bargain price of £3.5 million, with Goal claiming Italian club Sassuolo are close to securing a deal for Jeremie Boga.
The 21-year-old, who was birthed in France but can only boast of one Ivory Coast cap, is set depart Chelsea permanently after enduring loan spells at Rennes, Granada and Birmingham City. At £3.5 million, he is a bargain.
Indeed, Boga can be used on both flanks and behind the striker and is renowned for his electrifying speed and direct style of play. His type of football would fit perfectly well with the Scottish Premiership.
